European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA): Violence against women: an EU-wide survey. Results at a glance.
This report responds to the request for comparable stastical data on violence against women and is based on interviews with 42 000 women across the 28 Member States of the European Union. The women were questioned about their experiences with physical, sexual and psychological violence (including domestic violence, stalking and sexual harassment) throughout their lives. According to FRA there are several areas where action is needed, for example:
- regular collection of data is needed
- violence against women should be acknowledged and addressed as a fundamental rights abuse
- member states should develop specific national action plans on violence against women, which should be based on the experiences of women
- policy in the fields of employment, education, health, and information and communication technology should address the impact of violence against women
- adequate funding for research projects, programmes against violence and organisations working in the field of gender-based violence
