Helene Jarmer worked as a teacher for deaf children in secondary and special schools, as well as a lecturer at various austrian universities. She is currently president of the Austrian Deaf Federation ("Österreichischer Gehörlosenbund"), director of the service center "ÖGS.barrierefrei", member of parliament and disability spokeswoman for the Austrian Green Party.
